Match Result: Warwickshire won by 8 wickets. Warwickshire 24 points, Durham 3 points.
Warwickshire chose to bat after winning the toss on an
overcast morning and with conditions giving some early
assistance, Onions and Rushworth made quick breakthroughs
with Chopra and Porterfield out before lunch, while Trott 42
followed immediately afterwards.
Westwood 88 and Evans 42 compiled a century fourth wicket
partnership before both fell within a run of one another, while
Ambrose followed soon afterwards before Clarke and Barker
compiled a century partnership for the seventh wicket.
By stumps, Barker and Patel had taken Warwickshire on to
417-7 and the following morning, Barker completed the fifth
century of his career before the innings closed on 450 with Patel
making fifty-eight.
In reply Durham, in gloomy conditions, lost three wickets,
Stoneman, Jennings and Borthwick before bad light brought an
early close to proceedings with Jones having struck twice in an
accurate opening spell.
He collected another wicket early on the third morning,
bowling MacLeod, while Barker’s three wickets removing the
middle-order batsmen, left Durham teetering on 91-7 before
lunch. With the help of the tail in the shape of Hastings and
Rushworth, Collingwood 68 rallied Durham during the afternoon
to end on 185 all out, trailing by 265 after Barker 4-54 and Jones
4-48 had led the way for Warwickshire with the ball.
Following on, Durham again lost two early wickets, but
Stoneman batted resolutely as he made a century, but only
Richardson 47 and Coughlin 49 offered him any real support as
partners ran out.
Barker 5-103 completed a superb all-round performance and
with Clarke taking 3-61 Durham were dismissed a second time
for 327, setting Warwickshire a target of just sixty three to win.
There were a couple of jittery moments as both Porterfield
and Trott went cheaply but Westwood and Evans completed the
comprehensive eight wicket victory.
