Match Result: Match drawn, Warwickshire 10 points, Hampshire 11 points.
Warwickshire began their 2015 LVCC campaign with a home tie
against newly promoted Hampshire who had already completed
their first match the previous week in the Championship.
Winning the toss and fielding, Warwickshire found the opening
pair of Adams and Dawson difficult to remove as the visitors went
to lunch on 89-0.
After the break, Wright removed Dawson 38 lbw and then a
four wicket in-a-session burst from Rankin left Hampshire 201-6n
after a half century from Jimmy Adams.
Rankin 6-75, a career best and Wright 3-75 wrapped up
Hampshire’s innings before the close for 319 after Wheater had
made 74 and Briggs 48.
In the four overs remaining in the day, Chopra and Westwood
took Warwickshire on to 14-0 by the close.
The loss of three quick wickets for three runs checked
Warwickshire’s progress on the second morning, with Chopra,
Westwood and Porterfield going to some excellent close catches.
Evans was lbw to one that kept low before Hain fell on the stroke
of lunch.
Ambrose 113 with good support from Barker and Patel batted
through the second session before Warwickshire closed on 280,
thirty nine runs in arrears.
Barker then struck with the first delivery of the Hampshire
second innings, but Carberry and Dawson held firm to stumps,
when Hampshire were 38-1.
Another day of swinging fortunes saw Warwickshire take the
morning session on the third day, as the first five wickets fell for
just 108, but Carberry 81 and Ervine, who shared in half century
partnerships for both the sixth and seventh wickets, completed his
century, before Hampshire were finally dismissed for 339, setting
Warwickshire a target of 379 for victory.
By stumps, they had reached 47-0 from just eleven overs, but
after Westwood fell early on the final day to Andre Adams, Chopra
and Porterfield found scoring quickly difficult against some tight
Hampshire bowling.
Chopra batted solidly throughout the final day without
being able to accelerate and despite losing Evans and Hain
cheaply, Ambrose, batting with a runner after tearing a muscle
while batting, added twenty nine to give good support to his
skipper, who completed his century, in his first match as official
Warwickshire captain.
At the close, Warwickshire were 244-5 with Chopra unbeaten
on 119, still 135 short of their target, having scored just 197 runs
on the final day.
