Warwickshire U13s had a very strong 13 man squad for
the 2015 season which showed in their results.
Starting with an impressive win over Cheshire, batting
first Warwickshire looked to be in trouble at 88-5 early in the
game. However a patient and well constructed innings of
128* from Manraj Johal supported by Ben Langdell 30 and
Jack Holloway 26 helped to set a towering total of 297 for
the northern visitors. Tight bowling from Awais Mohammed
and Keifer Woods early in the Cheshire innings restricted the
visitors to 212-5 in their allotted overs. Ben Langdell making
his mark again with two wickets from his first two balls for
Warwickshire.
Staffordshire were next to visit the county and had beaten
this side in 2014 so a strong performance was required.
Again the opening pair of Mohammed and Grice restricted
the scoreboard while Yashas Machani and Louis Glover took
three wickets a piece while bowling out Staffs for just 49.
Langdell scored a quick and positive 35 to ensure an eight-
wicket victory for the home side.
Our first away game of the seasons was against
Leicestershire where Warwickshire were asked to bat first.
A solid start from Jasper Davidson 32 and a superb innings
from Jack Holloway 44 in the middle order ensured a total of
210-6. Early wickets in the Leicestershire innings brought two
powerful hitters to the crease who set about scoring freely
until Ali came on to bowl and took four wickets for ten runs
in just three overs, eventually bowling the home side out for
100.
Fixtures against both Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire
were a little frustrating. Having bowled both sides out for 186
and 162 respectively, Warwickshire were in a commanding
position chasing down the total. Scoreboard pressure soon
crept in, at 128-2 vs Notts and 105-4 vs Yorks with plenty
of overs (and batting) to come, Warwickshire soon found
themselves bowled out just short of their target.
Despite the disappointment against these sides, the
squad showed character and bounced back against both
Middlesex and Worcestershire. Setting Middlesex 179
(Burnell 44, Holloway 42, Johal 23, Glover 23), the bowlers

On a well used pitch Yorkshire batted with resolve to post

with the conditions. A very heavy loss.
shared the wickets restricting the visitors to 145 all out for a
good win against a strong side.
Against Worcestershire Machani set the tone with an
excellent 69, helped along by Davidson 33 and Barhey
28. Fresh back from a festival win, Worcestershire looked
comfortable chasing and were in control at the second drinks
break. Some outstanding fielding from Warwickshire ensured
the home side were restricted to 152 all out which included
four run outs!
The Bromsgrove festival was an opportunity for all players
to showcase their talents, which they took with both hands.
David Burnell the pick of the batters, hitting an aggressive
72 and 55 in his two innings. Jeevan Barhey scored 50 and
41 in his two while Ben Langdell struck a classy 75 against
a strong Somerset side and Will Iles a quick fire 42 against
Gloucestershire. Charlie Grice led the bowling attack with six
wickets in the festival, closely followed by Mohammed and
Woods with five each.
Overall 2015 was a good season for the Warwickshire
U13s with nine wins, two losses and positive contributions
from every member of the squad.
