Warwickshire women for the first time were invited to the
WCCC pre-season photo shoot and press day also the
invitation was extended to the chairman’s lunch later that
afternoon. This obviously raised the profile of Warwickshire
women’s cricket; they were now going to play in the same kit
as the WCCC professionals. It was also the season that the
England and Wales Cricket Board introduced coloured clothing
and playing with a white ball the Royal London One day Cup
competition.
Focusing on the season; the first block of games were
played against - Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Sussex and
Surrey form which there were some promising performances
hosts 151 all out off 36 overs (Stanislas 48). Shropshire got
off to a flyer and were well up with the run rate, until 4 wickets
from Stanislas and 3 from Patel meant the visitors lost their
last 6 wickets for just 48 runs, to give Warwickshire their 6th
victory.
Next came the home game against Leicestershire, which
saw Leics bat first and a fine batting display by three of their
top 4 batters meant that Leics finish on 237 for 3. This proved
too much of a total for Warwickshire, who ended up on 144
all out.
The last game was against Oxfordshire again at Bicester
and North Oxfordshire CC. Oxfordshire batted first scoring
130-7, but Amy Weir once again led from the front, scoring an
unbeaten 61, supported by 51 from Georgia Davis, to win by
9 wickets and to qualify for Finals Day.
Two more t20 competitions, where Warwickshire played
Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire at Market Harborough
CC and Leicestershire and Worcestershire at Moseley CC
followed. Notable performances from Jessica Crawley
(4-2-13-6) and Misha Patel with the bat meant Warwickshire
won two and lost two across the course of the two days.
At the Malvern Festival, Warwickshire again played two
t20s on day 1, against Shropshire and Yorkshire, narrowly
losing one and tying the other. The next day saw a loss to the
England U13 select XI, however a fantastic display on the last
day, in particular by Jess Crawley 63* ensured the festival
ended on a high with victory against a strong Yorkshire side.
On to Finals Day at Rugby School, and the girls were
drawn against a young talented Wales side in the semi-final.
Warwickshire batted first and amassed a total of 164 all out,
with 20s from Louise Brazier, Rebecca Brazier,
Georgia Davis and Katie Stanislas. This proved too much for
Wales, who were all out for 107, Emily Perrin the pick of the
bowlers taking 4 for 24.
On to the final against an experienced Lancashire side.
Warwickshire fielded first and took steady wickets, two for
each of Davis, Perrin and R Brazier, to leave Lancs 112 all
out. Unfortunately some tight Lancashire bowling proved
too much for the Warwickshire girls, who were all out for 58.
This defeat left them with an excellent second place in the
country and with many girls in the squad with another year
to go at U17 level, they should be very proud indeed of their
performances and results.
