County Representative Female and Warwickshire Access CC
Warwickshire Access
In 2015 our programme for cricketers with a disability
stepped up a gear as we worked with a variety of partners
to increase the scope of our work. Warwickshire Access CC
is the playing team which sits behind our work as a Cricket
Board with players who have either a physical disability or
learning difficulties. In addition to this we have strong links with
Warwickshire Visually Impaired CC and run an active Table
Cricket programme.
Warwickshire Access play a series of inter county during the
course of the summer and finished 2015 with a playing record
of played 6, Won 3, lost 2 with 1 abandoned. The side were
captained for the first time by Rory Phelan who led with great
distinction and coached by Martyn Collis. A number of squad
members featured in various representative sides.
Midlands
Lee Clarke, Liam Brothwood, Charlie Pestridge.
England
Sam Wyles
In September Sam Wyles travelled to Bangladesh to
represent the England Physically Disabled Side (with assistant
coach, ex Bear, Ian Salisbury) to play in an international
tournament against India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and
Bangladesh. He was an ever present in the side which won the
first international cricket tournament for players with a Physical
Disability.
Warwickshire were also heavily represented by Luke Suggs,
Justin Hollingsworth and Mo Khatari in the summer’s visually
impaired series against India. Whilst World Champions India
won both the t20 and 40 over series, the gap between the sides
is narrowing rapidly. It was pleasing to see Luke Suggs named
player of the series in the t20’s and Justin Hollingsworth in the
40 over series.
England Physically Disabled Side
in all areas however we had only 1 win from those games.
The next 3 games saw us play against – Kent, Berkshire and
Lancashire, form these games we got our 2 victory against
Lancashire which was vital, keeping out of the relegation zone.
Now sitting out of the relegation zone only just we need to win
the last game against Middlesex to be sure; after setting them
a reasonable total 225 to win they put up a good chase so lots
of fingers were crossed but Georgia Hennessy’s 5 wicket and
Rebecca Grundy’s 4 wickets supported by some outstanding
ground fielding and catching saw us winning and avoiding
demotion.
The weeks between the 50 over games we took part in
the Nat – West t20 cup which saw us hosting two of the four
days, it was a reasonable good t20 season but still fell short of
promotion back to the first division.

I would like to thank the following for their support of
Warwickshire Women’s Cricket this season. To Scorers
Jenny Skinner and Chloe Hill who have been generous with
their time. Wellesbourne CC and Moseley CC who year in year
out have been welcoming to women’s cricket. Finally, to all the
family and friends who have travelled all over the country this
season to support the women as they always do throughout
the year.
Finally, we must look ahead as the shape of Women’s
Cricket is forever developing, with the introduction of the
Women Cricket Super League to be launched in August 2016.
Warwickshire women must now stay with the pace as coaching
staff are making the necessary plans and adjustments to cope
with the change.
