was rested down the order and score 17* to nudge his batting
average up to 356!! Worcestershire were dispatched for 184,
Healey 2-32 and Daniels 3-25.
Next up were Oxfordshire away and we won the toss on a
blisteringly hot day. They toiled in the heat with us running up a
huge total of 324-4. Hawkes 88, Daniels 110 (99 balls) and
Tony Bristow, on debut, 85 off 59 balls. Whilst Oxfordshire
chased gamely, getting to 272-8 they were never close enough
to worry us, Duncan Gardner taking 4-48.
The final game was played at Hampton & Solihull CC
against Staffordshire who have improved immensely in the
last 2 years. Something they proved later in the competition
by eventually losing in the final to Yorkshire. They restricted
us to 189-7 (Daniels 32, Bristow 41) but we bowled really well
and fielding with a greater intensity than we had all season
we bowled them out for 129. Healey 3-18 and Mark Lilley, on
his belated debut, 3-26. Kevin Bissett was brilliant behind the
stumps as he was all season finishing top wicket keeper in the
competition.

We started away at Shropshire who made 209-9 (Nigel
Moore 3-41, Steve Dellow 2-28) which we chased with ease
making 211-2 in 38 overs (Mark Eames 75* and Mike Daniels
82* in 66 balls) but lost Mike Palmer and Dave Murphy to injury
for the next few games. Next, home to Herefordshire, who
chose to bat. They made 199-7, losing 3 wickets to run outs
with Steve Healey bowling tightly for his 2-19. Once again we
didn’t take long chasing them down (David Hawkes 43, Eames
83* and Jason Robinson, on debut, 59*).
That set us up nicely for Gloucestershire. They won the toss
and batted first amassing 283 all out on a typical good K&D CC
wicket with a short boundary to the clubhouse. They actually
lost their way from 260-5 thanks to Mike Daniels 3-41 and local
knowledge by the captain (Nigel Moore 6-66). The run chase
wasn’t impossible but when Mark Eames was out at 161-5
(another good score of 75) it required Kevin Bissett to take the
risks and Phil Clarke to remain steady. Kevin was out for a quick
fire 32, leaving 70 still to get. Local knowledge came good
again and Nigel Moore made use of the short boundary and
with Phil flicking 6’s as well it came down to 11 off the last over,
2 off the last ball. A single only left it a tied match, although one
that felt like a win (Clarke 52*, Moore 45*).
Wales away on a lovely day in the Mumbles came next and
we made short work of them. Another 3 run outs left them short
on 187-6 off their 45 overs. 27 overs later Mark Eames had
smashed 106, off 93 balls, and unusually left Dave Hawkes well
behind on 64*. A long journey for those with pad rash!
Home to Worcestershire and we won a toss and put on 289-
5. Hawkes wasn’t to be denied this time scoring 103, Daniels
51, Robinson 54, and Chris Bramley 38 off 29 balls. Eames

To support these programmes, WCB run an extensive
coaching programme in schools and various community
venues. We are delighted this year to be able to report the
formation of two Inclusive Cricket Clubs, Kings Heath and
Bablake, offering opportunities for players with an impairment.
A further piece of the Board’s activity is Table Cricket which
gives those with limited mobility an opportunity to enjoy the
game. We run a very active programme in schools and colleges
across the county. This includes two leagues which lead to a
County Finals Day. Our 2015 winners were Queen Alexander
College from Harborne who won the right to represent the
county in the Midlands Finals at Trent Bridge.
