WARWICKSHIRE 2nd XI v WORCESTERSHIRE 2nd XI at
Barnt Green, 5-8th May 2015
Warwickshire 105-5 drew with Worcestershire 344-8 dec
There was no play possible on the opening day of the
four day match at Barnt Green after heavy overnight rain
had seeped under the covers. The match should, weather
permitting, get underway today.
Further rain then prevented play on the second day
before the match finally got underway on the third morning.
Warwickshire won the toss and invited Worcestershire to
bat and gained some early success with Tom Milnes taking
three early wickets as the visitors slipped to 49-4 before
Rhodes and Barnard steadied the innings going to lunch
on 71-4 before Rhodes 38 was dismissed in the afternoon
session.
Fraine and Barnard took the total on to 180-6 and then
Michael Hill 64, who had played a match for Warwickshire
last season, joined Barnard and added one hundred and
forty nine for the eighth wicket with Barnard finally making
133 from 221 deliveries as Worcestershire closed the day
on 344-8 from their ninety six overs.
Tom Milnes 3-52 and Josh Poysden 2-67 were the most
successful bowlers with Ollie Hannon-Dalby and Ben
Brooks taking a wicket each.
On the final morning, Worcestershire declared on their
overnight total, while Warwickshire then forfeited their first
innings and Worcestershire their second innings, to set a
target of 345 from ninety six overs.
Wickets quickly tumbled and at 43-5 Alex Mellor 29* and
Jonathan Webb 37* came together, batting through to lunch
when Warwickshire were 105-5 from twenty eight overs.
The promised rain came along during the lunch
interval and after more afternoon squalls, the match was
abandoned as a draw.
SURREY 2nd XI v WARWICKSHIRE 2nd XI at Guildford,
11-13th May 2015
Surrey 239 and 497-7 drew with Warwickshire 442
Skipper Freddie Coleman picked up an injury before
play commenced so Richard Jones took over the captaincy
for Warwickshire and put Surrey into bat at Guildford on a
greenish looking wicket.
Tom Milnes trapped Harinath lbw for 18 and Jones
picked up Sibley’s wicket before experienced Solanki edged
Milnes to McKay for twelve.
Kapil 54 and Foakes 49 added seventy nine for the fifth
wicket and Burke 36 gave some late substance to the home
side’s innings that closed in the fifty ninth over on 239.
Milnes finished with 5-46 and Adair 2-36 while Jones,
Gordon and Poysden all picked up a wicket.
In reply, Umeed went quickly, but Webb 33 added
seventy six for the second wicket with Javid who had
reached ninety four by the close and who, with Aaron Thomason
sixty five, had taken Warwickshire to 210-2 by the close and
their third wicket partnership worth one hundred and twenty.
On the second morning both Javid 101 and Thomason
145 completed their centuries while Peter McKay 58 helped
Warwickshire to 442 all out in the hundredth over.
Van der Bergh 3-73, Linley 2-32 and Meaker 2-74 were
the most successful bowlers as Surrey faced a first innings
deficit of 203.
In their second innings, Harinath and Sibley posted an
opening partnership of 157 before Harinath was lbw to
Josh Poysden for exactly fifty, but Sibley 92* and Solanki
25* were still together at stumps when Surrey 200-1 trailed
by just three runs.
The final day saw Surrey continue to use the match as
batting practice with Sibley completing his century before
finally being dismissed by Mark Adair for 168, while Solanki
made seventy one and Foakes forty seven.
Josh Poysden 3-125 and Adair 2-57 were the main wicket
takers as Surrey were 497-7 at the close and the match
