Second XI Trophy 2015
WARWICKSHIRE 2nd XI v DERBYSHIRE 2nd XI at Knowle
and Dorridge CC, 9th June 2015
Derbyshire 276-7 (50 overs) 2 points beat Warwickshire 240
(48.2 overs) 0 points
Derbyshire won the toss and chose to bat on a good wicket
in the opening 50 over competition match of the season,
with the opening pair of Hosein and Wood posting a fifty
partnership in the first eight overs before Wood was lbw to
Adair for thirty three.
Hosein followed for twenty two to Gordon and five
deliveries later, Poysden bowled Clare for seventeen, before
a partnership of eighty seven between Thakor and Knight for
the fourth wicket put Derbyshire into a strong position until
Poysden picked up a second wicket when Thakor was taken
by Javid for thirty one.
Critchley made a run-a-ball twenty six until Adair bowled
him, while Knight completed his half century and was
eventually out for eighty nine in the penultimate over of the
innings, lbw to Hannon-Dalby.
In the final over Gordon removed Cork for twenty nine
as the Derbyshire innings closed on 276-7 from their fifty
overs. Gordon, Adair and Poysden each too two wickets for
Warwickshire.
In reply, Warwickshire lost both openers, Webb and Lewis,
inside the first five overs but a third wicket century stand
between Javid and Coleman got the reply back on target
before two wickets from off-spinner Wainwright checked the
Warwickshire progress.
Milnes and Coleman added fifty but that preceded a
collapse that saw four wickets fall for just nineteen although
Coleman completed his century before becoming one of
Critchley’s four victims, as Derbyshire ran out victors by thirty
six runs when the Warwickshire innings closed on 240 in the
forty ninth over.
Coleman made 105 from 114 deliveries with twelve fours
and a six.
WARWICKSHIRE 2nd XI v NOTTINGHAMSHIRE 2nd XI at
Coventry and North Warwicks CC, 19th June 2015
Warwickshire 307-9 (50 overs) 2 points beat Nottinghamshire
205 (41.2 overs) 0 points
Freddie Coleman won the toss and chose to bat against
Nottinghamshire at Coventry and North Warwickshire C.C. and
after losing Webb 21. in the seventh over, saw Andrew Umeed
and Jonathan Trott then add 199 for the second wicket in thirty
one overs, as Trott completed his century before falling to
Hutton for 114, including three sixes and nine fours.
Umeed followed nine balls later, when just six runs short of
his century, before three more wickets tumbled in four balls for
just two runs. Coleman 35 accelerated the scoring rate before
he too was dismissed just fifteen balls from the close of the
innings, while three more wickets then fell quickly in just ten
balls, to leave Warwickshire closing on a challenging 307-9
from their fifty overs.
Carter 4-54 was the most successful Nottinghamshire
bowler, while both Hutton and Brown took two wickets apiece.
In Nottinghamshire’s innings, Milnes had Dal caught behind
by Benton off the third ball of the reply and collected a second
when dismissing the other opener, Moores, for thirty five.
Phagura picked up three wickets in four overs, as only
Will Root offered any real resistance, making an unbeaten
eighty five and with just Brown 28, giving him support, he finally
ran out of partners, as the Nottinghamshire innings closed on
205 in the forty second over, to leave the home side victors by
one hundred and two runs.
Phagura 4-36 and Milnes 3-25 led the way for Warwickshire
with Singh and Brookes picking up the other wickets.
THE UNICORNS v WARWICKSHIRE 2nd XI at Great Tew and
Little Tew CC, 2nd July 2015
The Unicorns 181 (41.4 overs) 2 points beat Warwickshire
176 (49.2 overs) 0 points by 5 runs
After choosing to bat the Unicorns found themselves in real
trouble at 42-6 against the Warwickshire seamers, with
Mark Adair and Recordo Gordon spearheading the attack,
before a partnership of one hundred and eight between
Thomason 41 and skipper Tripathi 68, provided some
resistance before the remainder of the Unicorn’s batting
fell tamely away leaving them all out for 181 in just the forty
second over.
For Warwickshire Adair 4-19, Gordon 3-30, Milnes 2-49
and Singh 1-35 were the wicket takers as the Unicorns total
appeared to be significantly below what would have been
deemed par
In reply, Warwickshire’s batsmen were even more fallible
than their opponents, as they slipped to 50-6 with a series
of poor shots and a badly judged run out between Hain and
Thomason that saw Hain depart for just five.
There were some late order runs for Bainton, Phagura and
Singh, but it was all too much to recover and the Unicorns
held on to record a five run victory when they dismissed
Warwickshire for just 176 in the final over.
A disappointing result from a match that looked to be well
within reach at the interval.
LEICESTERSHIRE v WARWICKSHIRE 2nd XI at Grace Rd,
Leicester, 17th July 2015
Leicestershire 260-3 (41.5 overs) 2 points beat Warwickshire
259 (49.0 overs) 0 points by 7 wickets
Another disappointing performance from Warwickshire’s
Second Eleven saw them lose their third match in four in the 50
over competition, when losing to Leicestershire.
Warwickshire won the toss and chose to bat at Grace Road,
losing Andrew Umeed early for nine and after
Freddie Coleman 44, was dismissed, they were struggling on
138-6 before a partnership of seventy for the seventh wicket
between Peter McKay and Mark Adair.
This helped Warwickshire recover from their poor start
before closing on 259 from forty nine overs with McKay making
seventy five and Adair twenty seven.
In reply, Kent and Kurtz put on eighty one for the first wicket
before Kent was dismissed for thirty seven, but Agathangalou
and Kurtz then added ninety eight for the second, with Kurtz
finally making 107 as Leicestershire completed a seven wicket
victory with more than eight overs to spare.
