Match Result: Lancashire won by 8 runs Points: Birmingham 0, Lancashire 2.
Lancashire’s NatWest t20 Blast quarter-final hopes
were given a giant boost by beating Birmingham by eight
runs at Edgbaston.
Put in, Lancashire lost openers Prince and
Livingstone to simple catches to midwicket before Clarke
then added Davies in an excellent three-over opening
spell which cost just seven runs.
Against the slower bowlers the first three overs of
spin yielded just 11 runs and another wicket, Brown and
at halfway, the Lightning had limped to 44 for 4 before
skipper Croft 64* and Faulkner’ stand of fifty nine helped
them reach 145-6.
The Bears began watchfully, but McCullum and
Lewis added 40 from 33 balls before falling to successive
balls from Croft 2-16 and as the Bears struggled to get
on top of the Lightning bowlers, a spectacular catch
at full stretch by Croft to dismiss Evans, made matters
worse, helping to force the required rate up, with
Birmingham needing to find twenty three from the last
ten balls.
This proved beyond a succession of new batsmen
from the lower order as five wickets fell from just twelve
deliveries leaving the Bears all out for 137 with a ball to
spare.
How did that happen? - Davies bowled by Clarke Patel 1 wicket for 7 runs in three overs
