Match Result: Leicestershire won by 7 wickets Points: Leicestershire 2 Birmingham 0.
before the former fell to another fine catch by Wells, this
time at long-off.
Evans went for thirteen but Ambrose kept working
the ball around skilfully to help the total on to 160-5 from
the twenty overs.
Leicestershire got off to a flier, reaching 50 in the
fourth as Cosgrove raced to 44 from with seven fours,
one six against some friendly bowling before falling lbw
to Patel’s fifth delivery.
With Leicestershire 71 for 3, Birmingham sensed an
opportunity, but O’Brien and Akmal under no pressure to
go for big shots, milked the bowling as the Foxes went
on to win relatively easily by seven wickets, with Akmal
scoring a half-century on his farewell appearance for the
Foxes.
Searching for a fifth successive win in the North
Group Birmingham posted a solid total of 160 for 5 at
Edgbaston, thanks mainly to Ambrose’s well-judged 66*
from 54 balls but Leicestershire reached 164 for three
with nine balls to spare.
Cosgrove laid the platform with a blistering 44 from
23 balls and then O’Brien and Akmal saw them home
with an unbroken stand of 93 in 70 balls.
After choosing to bat, Birmingham suffered two early
blows with Chopra and Bell losing their wickets early to
some fine fielding. Bell was looking dangerous when he
drove McKay to mid-off where Wells flung himself to his
right to make the catch.
Then Porterfield and Ambrose built the innings’ only
partnership of substance. They added 80 from 58 balls
