Match Result: Birmingham won by 7 wickets D/L Points: Birmingham 2 Nottinghamshire 0.
Batting first, Nottinghamshire rushed to 65 for 2 in
their Power Play overs, thanks mainly to Wessels, who
hammered three sixes in the space of seven deliveries.
But Wessels was out to the last ball of the sixth over,
caught by Chopra at cover while Brendan Taylor, with
whom he had added forty six in four overs then hit Clarke
straight to mid-off in the next over.
The scoring rate then slowed rapidly as spinners
Patel and Poysden applied the brakes despite bowling
with a wet ball.
Poysden conceded only five runs in his first
two overs and took the wicket of Smith, as the
Nottinghamshire total grow by a meagre 25 runs,
with two wickets lost in the next five overs and
despite Sammy’s sixes off Poysden and Javid the
Nottinghamshire batsmen were never able to reassert
themselves in any sustained way.
James Taylor, was leg before to a Clarke full toss,
and the return of Hannon-Dalby 4-29, brought wickets
with consecutive deliveries and in his final over the wicket
of Hilfenhaus to a slower one.
Chasing 150 to win from 20 overs heavy rain after
only four balls resulted in a revised target of 98 from 11
overs.
Porterfield, who hit the winning boundary, finished
37* after Bell had hit 38 off 24, as the Bears reached their
goal with four balls to spare.
Clarke joins in as Taylor is out for 23
Patel bowled by Patel for 4
Hilfenhaus loses his wicket to Hannon-Dalby
