Warwickshire Old County Cricketers Association 2015
by Jason Ratcliffe, Chairman
to the Edgbaston Stadium for a wonderful dinner in the
Committee Room. Around 25 members of the association
made the journey and it was great to welcome
Chris Maynard back to Edgbaston for the first time in many
years. Many followers of the club will remember Chris as
a young wicketkeeper batsman who played 24 matches
for the Bears between 1978 and 1982 before moving to
Lancashire to pursue a new career. It is gratifying to note
that once again the links with Warwickshire and its former
players continues to attract many back here after what
seems a life time away. As the say “once a Bear, always a
Bear”.
Sadly, the association also had to “say goodbye” to a
number of former players who passed away during the year
including Shirley Griffiths, Michael Mills and although not a
Community Day 2015
Warwickshire players, former 1st XI scorer, Alex Davis was
in every way a Bear at heart. Our thoughts and condolences
go to all of the families and friends who have lost someone
close to them.
We continue the work of gathering contact details for
anyone who has ever represented Warwickshire in the past
and once again, John Jameson has been working hard
behind the scenes to extend the contact database. Without
this highly valuable work, it would be so easy to lose contact
with many of our former players when they retire from the
game and move away.
